Wiley-Blackwell Exchanges Online Conference

Wiley-Blackwell is holding a free virtual conference November 15-19 entitled “Wellbeing: A Cure-All for the Social Sciences?” as part of their Exchanges Online Conference Series. The event will include a publishing workshop with topics such as “The Future of Publishing,” “Top 10 Mistakes New Scholars Make When Trying to Get Published,” and “The Online Author’s Survival Guide.” Free registration is available online here.

Holiday Closure

Our institutional host, the University of Arizona, is closed today for the Veterans Day holiday. ISA also recognizes our friends all over the world in honoring Armistice Day and Remembrance Day. We will open again tomorrow, November 12th, at 9 AM MST.

CFP: Journal of Strategic Security

The Journal of Strategic Security (JSS), a publication of Henley-Putnam University, announces a call for papers on "Strategic Security in Cyberspace." The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) defines cyberspace as "a global domain within the information environment consisting of the interdependent network of information technology infrastructures, including the Internet, telecommunications networks, computer systems, and embedded processors and controllers." Protecting critical assets within that space is one of the most significant and complex challenges in the current global security environment. Authors from around the globe are invited to share their perspectives on cybersecurity issues. The Journal encourages diversity in theoretical foundations, research methods, and approaches. Academic disciplines of anthropology, criminology, economics, history, international relations, political science, psychology, and sociology are welcome, as are the applied scholarly fields of security studies, strategic studies, and intelligence studies. JSS emphasizes contemporary security issues, so manuscripts focused on non-state actors are of particular interest. Please see the journal website for submission guidelines. Conference: Conflict, Intervention and the Politics of Knowledge

The organizers invite you to attend the HCRI conference Conflict, Intervention and the Politics of Knowledge which is taking place on 25 & 26 November 2010 at the University of Manchester. The conference is free of charge and will explore the production and circulation of knowledge in areas affected by conflict. To reserve a place at this conference simply email Rebecca Whitehead. Annual Convention: Follow ISA's Exhibitor's on Twitter

ISA was pleased to find that most of our exhibitors are using the Twitter service so we have put together a "Twitter List" of our exhibitors. This list will allow you to "follow" our exhibitors as they showcase their events, promotions and products on their Twitter feeds. In other words, our list follows them all, so you don't have to. You do not need to be a member of Twitter to view the list (but you do to subscribe to it).

For those of you on Twitter, following a list is as simple as following any other Twitter user. Simply navigate to the list page and click on “Follow”, underneath the name of the list. You can quickly view your subscribed lists, as well as your own, on the sidebar.

CFP: Mid-Atlantic Council on Latin American Studies Annual Conference

The program committee invites faculty, students, and practitioners to submit individual paper and panel proposals that are particularly concerned with the problem of globalization and well-being in Latin America for the annual conference to be held March 18-19, 2011 at the University of Pittsburgh, on the theme Globalization and Well Being in Latin America. At the same time, papers dealing with other aspects of Latin American Studies are very welcome. Additionally, organizers will consider a limited number of workshop proposals on such questions as study abroad, academic publishing, and teaching methods, among others. Please submit a 250-word abstract for individual papers or complete panel proposals (250-word abstracts for each of four papers) in English, Spanish, or Portuguese to maclas2011.proposals@gmail.com by December 31, 2010. Please include a title, your name (all names of panel/workshop participants if relevant), your institution, and your role (faculty, student, other). Presentations should be 15-20 minutes in length. MACLAS offers prizes for the best undergraduate and graduate papers, as well as prizes for the best book, and article published by a member in 2009-2010. CFP: IAPSS Journal of Political Science

The Editorial Board of Politikon, The International Association for Political Science Students' Academic Journal, invites graduate and undergraduate students to submit papers for review and possible publication. Although Politikon accepts submissions on a rolling basis all year round those wishing to be included in Vol. 16, No. 2. 2010 should submit papers by November 20, 2010. Volume 16, number 1 of POLITIKON is online now and may be found here.
