Conference: ASMEA Annual Conference

The organizers invite attendance at the third annual conference of the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA) to be held November 4-6, 2010 at the Key Bridge Marriott in Washington, D.C. The conference theme is: The Middle East and Africa in the 21st Century: Local Trends, Regional Challenges, Global Impacts. ASMEA is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that promotes the highest standards of academic research and teaching in the fields of Middle Eastern and African studies and related disciplines through programs, publications, and services that support its members and the international community of scholars and interested members of the public. CFN: The Deborah Gerner Grant for Professional Development

The award committee invites nominations for the The Deborah Gerner Grant for Professional Development. The grant is awarded by the Women’s Caucus of International Studies (WCIS) and sponsored by Lynne Rienner Publishers. Funds from this grant may be used to support any legitimate professional development need identified by the candidate. Some examples of possible uses include the following: (a) Travel to a professional meeting, (b) travel to conduct interviews, work with a colleague on a collaborative project, or field research, (c) purchase of databases, software, books, or other materials needed for research, or (d) participation in an appropriate pedagogy workshop or institute. Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program leading to a Ph.D., or must have earned a doctorate within the last five (5) years. Usually, only one grant of up to $2,000 will be awarded in any given year, but in exceptional circumstances more than one grant may be awarded. For more information please see the award website. CFP: Journal of Empire Studies

A new scholarly journal on global studies, The Journal of Empire Studies, invites articles on topics within the broad range of empire studies. Of particular interest are examinations of specific subjects comparing eastern and western empires. The deadline for Spring 2011 submissions: November 15, 2010 and the deadline for Summer 2011 submissions: March 15, 2011. U.S. Imposes New Travel Fees

Starting Sept. 8, U.S. Customs and Border Protection plans to begin collecting, through the newly established Electronic System for Travel Authorization, a $14 fee once every two years from travelers entering the United States from visa-waiver countries. The fees will fund a new federal tourism bureau established this year by the Travel Promotion Act. See the ESTA website for more information on how to apply to travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program.

CFP: Game Theory Practice

The Water Science and Policy Center at the University of California, Riverside is pleased to release the second call for the 8th Game Theory Practice meeting dedicated to global and international issues. The conference will be held in Riverside California, July 11-12, 2011. CFP: Strategic Behavior and the Environment

The journal Strategic Behavior and the Environment announces the publication of their first issue. This new journal from Now Publishers is intended to provides a platform for the various disciplines that jointly contribute to our understanding of the field. Scholars in economics (including experimental economics, political economy, and game theory), political science, international relations, negotiation, and other disciplines are invited to submit manuscripts for publication consideration following a peer-review process. CFP: IPSA-ECPR Joint Conference, University of Sao Paulo

The International Association of Political Science-IPSA and the European Consortium of Political Research –ECPR- are co-organizing the conference "Whatever Happened to North-South?", which will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from the 16th to the 19th of February, 2011. Proposals are invited for the panel "Exploring Complexity in Political Science" organized by the Latin American Regional Center of the International Association for Political Science Students (CRAL-IAPSS). The proposal should be submitted in English using our online form on our website. The deadline is August 6, 2010.
