ISSS/ISAC Deadline Reminder

Please note that the the deadline for proposals for the annual meeting of the International Security Studies Section of ISA and the International Security and the Arms Control Section of APSA is this Saturday. This year's conference will be held in Providence, RI, on October 14-16 and papers are invited on the theme: International Security Beyond 9/11. The deadline for proposals is July 31st. Call for Nominations: The Gerner Award for Innovative Teaching

The Deborah Gerner Innovative Teaching in International Studies Award award honors the legacy of Misty Gerner as not only a fine scholar, but also as a passionate and dedicated teacher and mentor. To carry her memory and mission forward, Rowman & Littlefield Publishers and the editorial board of the New Millennium Books in International Studies series have established a Deborah “Misty” Gerner Innovative Teaching in International Studies Award, which would be granted annually to an instructor who has developed effective new approaches to teaching in the discipline. Examples could include innovative case studies, teaching software, and simulations. Preference will be given to materials that can be easily adapted by other instructors. In keeping with Misty’s interests and commitments and the goals of the New Millennium Book Series, emphasis will be on pedagogy that engages students with issues of war, peace, identity, sovereignty, security, and sustainability—economic, environmental, or ethical—as they are evolving in the 21st century. The deadline for nominations  is October 15th.

CFP: Competition and Collaboration in the Global Transformation of Higher Education

AIEA invites the submission of proposals for its 2011 conference at Westin St. Francis Hotel, San Francisco on Feb 20-23, 2011. The conference theme is: Competition and Collaboration in the Global Transformation of Higher Education. Pre-conference workshops will be held on February 20-21. The conference will begin in the afternoon of February 21 and end with the plenary luncheon on February 23. Proposals may  be submitted online here by August 15, 2010.

CFP: Conference of the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies

This year's Conference of the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies (PCCLAS) will be held at Pepperdine University, in Malibu California, November 5-6, 2010. The conference will bring together scholars, educators, graduate and undergraduate students, and community members interested in Latin American Studies. Papers from all areas of the social sciences, humanities and the arts and/or cross-disciplinary studies and relating to Latin American/Hispanic/Latino/a Studies are invited on the theme: Emerging Consensus in Latin America and the Role of the United States. CFP: Economic Geography 2011

The organizers invite proposals for the third global conference on Economic Geography 2011: Space, Economy and Environment, to be held 28 June - 1 July, 2011, in Seoul, South Korea. Panels on the global financial crisis, regional economic resilience, and revisiting industrial cluster policies are being considered. Abstracts are due by January 31, 2011. CFP: ECPR General Conference

The organizers invite proposals for a panel entitled ‘Analysing Foreign Policy’ to be convened at the next ECPR General Conference in Reykjavik, August 25-27, 2011. All proposals should include an abstract of up to 300 words, a list of (four to five) potential paper titles and paper givers as well as the (co-)chairs and the discussant of the panel. The proposals must be submitted via the official conference website. The deadline for panel proposals is 1 September 2010.

ISA-West 2010 Proposal Deadline Today

Proposals for the ISA-West 2010 annual conference are due today. The call for papers can be found here. The conference will be held this year at the Westin Bonaventure in downtown Los Angeles, September 24-25.  More information can be found at isawest.org. In addition to a program focused upon ethics, we have lined up two excellent speakers; on Friday night, September 24, ISA President David Lake will give an address and the Saturday luncheon speaker is Peter W. Singer, director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative and a senior fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institute. This is a great opportunity for graduate students to submit papers to a conference that has always emphasized teaching and mentoring.  Additionally, on the Thursday before the conference, September 23rd, we are offering a Teaching Training Workshop hosted at the University of Southern California.

CFA: Visiting Fellowships in Human Rights

Applications are invited for Visiting Fellowships in Human Rights, hosted by the Human Rights Consortium at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. Fellowships are granted for a period ranging from one to six months. Fellows are expected to help develop the activities of the Human Rights Consortium at the School by presenting at a conference or seminar or contributing to a publication, and to pursue their own research. Office space, access to computing and printing facilities and a library card are provided. An honorarium of up to £2,000 is offered to one Visiting Fellow in Human Rights each year. Non-stipendiary fellowships may also be offered, subject to space availability. The application deadline is 30 September 2010 for a visit in 2011. Prospective applicants are encouraged to apply at least six months before their proposed visit. More information may be found here.

CFP: The Diffusion of Regional Integration

The organizers invite paper proposals for an international conference on “The Diffusion of Regional Integration” to be held in Berlin, December 9-11, 2010. The conference will focus on three primary themes: comparing regional integration, exporting regional integration, and importing regional integration. We invite papers from various disciplinary perspectives examining each of these themes. Papers should explicitly address the diffusion of regional integration as outcome or process.
