Travel Grants Available for ISA 2011

The travel grant application process for the ISA 2011 Annual Convention begins today. The ISA travel grant program has been created to allow junior scholars and senior graduate students some assistance to enable them to attend conferences that would otherwise be out of reach. Therefore, all of these grants will be awarded to junior scholars and senior graduate students. There is only a relatively small budget set aside for this travel grant. Any grants awarded are considered to be "seed" support of a limited amount and will only assist in funding a limited part of the entire cost of attendance. Travel grants are available only for ISA members. If you are not an ISA member you may still apply, your membership fee will be deducted from your grant.You may use the MyISA system to apply. Applications are due by September 9, 2010. Applicants will be notified about their award status on Oct. 11th. Please see the grant guidelines for more information.

CFN: SWIPE Mentor Award

The International Political Economy Section of ISA invites nominations for the SWIPE (Society for Women in IPE) Mentor Award. The award recognizes excellent mentoring in the field. Originating in the early 1990’s, the Society for Women in International Political Economy (SWIPE) observed that many women in IPE did not have the close mentoring relationships that their male counterparts seemed to benefit from.  While research across disciplines has shown that mentoring can be key to higher publication rates and successfully achieving tenure, women tend to get less mentoring than men. To recognize excellent mentoring in their field, members created the SWIPE Mentor Award, presenting the first award to Robert Keohane in 1997.  The SWIPE Mentor Award pays tribute to women and men who have invested in the professional success of women in the IPE field.   Recipients have included scholars, an academic press editor, and deans. Nominations must include the nominee’s current c.v. and a letter (no more than 1 page) describing how the nominee has mentored women in IPE. Nominations may come from any member of ISA and should be sent by e-mail to the Chair of the selection committee, Aida A. Hozic, hozic@ufl.edu. The deadline for nominations is July 15, 2010. The  committee will make its selection no later than  September 1st.

Global Conference on Human Rights and Diverse Societies

The McGill University Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism will host its second Echenberg Family Conference on Human Rights, the Global Conference on Human Rights and Diverse Societies, to be held October 7-9, 2010, in Montreal, Canada. The Conference will bring together from around the world academics, writers, journalists, legislators, diplomats, activists and others who are active in the field of international human rights and who devote their lives to building, supporting and studying diverse societies. The conference seeks to challenge the mainstream narrative of the universality of human rights. Panelists will address how diverse societies around the world conceptualize human rights and deal with the implementation of human rights policies and norms. The conference also aspires to identify alternative frameworks that can facilitate the conceptualization of and help find solutions to global human rights issues. CFP: Politikon

The Editorial Board of Politikon, the International Association for Political Science Students' Academic Journal, invites graduate and undergraduate students to submit papers for review and possible publication. Politikon aims at publishing works of high quality by political science students to give them visibility and recognition in the academic world. Politikon accepts submissions on a rolling basis all year round. However, in order to be included in Vol. 16, No. 1. Year 2010, submissions will have to reach us before June 20, 2010. ISA 2011 Proposal Deadline

Today is the deadline to submit paper and panel proposals for the 2011 Annual Convention. We are happy to report that the submission process is going smoothly for both paper and panel proposals.
