Papers are invited for a panel on the theme Security and Development in Transcaucasia and North Caucasia, to be held at the ISA Annual Convention, Montreal, Canada (16-19 March 2011). The panel will explore the links between governance, development and security in Transcaucasia and North Caucasia, focusing on such issues as ethnopolitical and ethnoreligious conflicts in the region and the bilateral and multilateral instruments of conflict resolution; postcommunist transitions and transformation of the regional and local governance structures; corruption and crime in the region, its domestic and international consequences; international aid and development; energy security and the region's role in international security architecture; as well as the role of international and local NGOs in the promotion of human rights and good governance in the region. Two main areas that this panel seeks to address are: (a) regional security and its broader international ramifications; and (b) the interrelationship between domestic governance, security and development. Please send your paper title, full name, institutional affiliation, and the paper abstract to molchan@stu.ca no later than May 30, 2010.
