OTJR Seminar Programme and Working Papers

Oxford Transitional Justice Research (OTJR) is pleased to announce the seminar programme for the coming term, featuring presentations by Juan Mendez (President Emeritus of the International Center for Transitional Justice and former UN Secretary-General's adviser on the prevention of genocide), Benjamin Ferencz (chief prosecutor of the Einsatzgruppen case at the Nuremberg trials, 1947-8) and Professor Stanley Cohen (Emeritus Professor of Sociology, London School of Economics). The full seminar programme is available on the OTJR website, where you can also find podcasts of all previous events as well as new OTJR working papers on International Justice in Africa, Peru, and Northern Ireland. Oxford Transitional Justice Research (OTJR) is an inter-disciplinary network of more than 100 Oxford staff and students working broadly on issues of transition in societies recovering from mass conflict and/or repressive rule.

Conference: The Obama Presidency: A Preliminary Assessment

The Obama Presidency: A Preliminary Assessment is a two-day conference to be held at the University of Southern Mississippi on November 19-20, 2010 and will feature panels on domestic policy, economic policy, foreign and security policy, the implications of the 2010 midterm elections, congressional and media relations, and considerations of ethics and character. The conference conveners are planning an edited volume of select papers from the conference. Conference events include a tour of the historic Jefferson Davis Home and an organized dinner on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast.

CfP: Annual Review of Political and Military Sociology

The Annual Review of Political and Military Sociology is currently seeking article submissions in the fields of political and military sociology, broadly defined. ARPMS is the new title of the former Journal of Political and Military Sociology, now relaunched and henceforth to be published annually by Transaction Publishers. Since its inception in 1973, the journal has advanced the fields of political and military sociology through the dissemination of high-quality scholarly research. In so doing, it has established itself as a leading international journal in these fields. The journal welcomes submissions covering a wide range of topics in political science, international relations and political sociology. Such topics include, but are not limited to: military sociology, civil-military relations, problems of governance, foreign policy, ethnic/religious/territorial conflict, secession and irredentism, problems of social and political order, war and armed conflict, political elites and international migration. CfP: Political Economy of International Organizations

The program chair invites submissions for the fourth annual conference on the Political Economy of International Organizations, to be held in Zurich, Switzerland, on January 27-29, 2011. The conference brings together economists, political scientists and other scholars to address political-economy issues related to international organizations such as the World Trade Organization, the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the European Union, and also other international organizations that have yet received less attention in the academic literature. CfP: 2010 DMZ Peace Congress in Korea

The Korean Association of International Studies will hold "The 2010 DMZ Peace Congress" in Seoul, South Korea, from 12 to 14 August 2010. The program chair invites proposals on the conference theme Green Cooperation for Peace and Life. The Congress will provide a forum to discuss a wide range of subjects concerning the only heavily armed Demilitarized Zone in the Korean peninsula and its related topics. CfP: Peace, Conflict and Development

The online academic journal Peace, Conflict and Development, which is funded through the Peace Studies Department of the University of Bradford is now accepting articles for the next issue of the peer-reviewed journal until Friday, April 23. The next issue to due to be published in July. Peace, Conflict and Development is an open-access journal focusing on contemporary issues in Conflict and Peace Studies. It aims to publish innovative and accessible writing on a wide range of topics – human rights, democracy and democratisation, conflict resolution, environment, security, war, culture, identity and community, and other related areas of interest. Authors are asked to send a review copy of their article (between 3,000 and 8,000 words), with an abstract and separate title page to the editor at: editor@peacestudiesjournal.org.uk. CfP: Millennium Journal of International Studies

Millennium Journal of International Studies invites paper and panel proposals for its 39th Conference for October 2010. The conference will take place on the 16-17 October 2010 at the London School of Economics and Political Science.  The conference will explore the concept and practice of dialogue in International Relations.  This year, we are introducing a dialogue format for the plenary sessions to reflect the theme of the conference. This conference seeks to explore the meaning, purpose and utility of dialogue in IR, and how it is put into practice. Please submit your abstracts to the Editors at millennium@lse.ac.uk. CfP: Race and the Food System

The editorial staff of Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts invite submissions for the fourth issue of its fourth volume, entitled “Race and the Food System.” The issue will consider how the U.S. and international food system, from the ground to the grocer, rests on a racial construct that has historically had, and continues to have, severe adverse impacts on producers, consumers, and workers of color. Structural racism shapes the development of the food system in the new century, not unlike it has in the past, and demands new, creative, and strategic thinking and action in response. We welcome the viewpoints of activists, advocates, researchers, and other practitioners working in the field. Please send manuscript submissions to the editor: race-editor@osu.edu. Guest Editor Deepa Iyer, Executive Director of South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), and the editorial staff of Race/Ethnicity: Multidisciplinary Global Contexts invite submissions for the third issue of its fourth volume, entitled “Field Notes on the 9/11 Moment: Transformations in Community and Country.” The journal welcomes analysis, critiques, reflections, and documentation by activists, community-based organizations, and others who responded to the crisis that enveloped the South Asian, Muslim, Sikh, and Arab American communities in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
