All those who pre-register by today will have their name badges printed and waiting for them at the ISA Registration Desk at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans. CfP: Inter-Asian Connections II

The Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HKIHSS), the University of Hong Kong, the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) announce an open call for proposals from faculty members at accredited universities and colleges in any world region, to organize and direct one of 6 thematic workshops at a 3-day international conference entitled "Inter-Asian Connections." The conference aims to showcase innovative research from across the social sciences and related disciplines on themes of particular relevance to Asia, re-conceptualized as a dynamic and interconnected historical, geographical, and cultural formation stretching from the Middle East through Eurasia, South Asia and Southeast Asia, to East Asia. CfP: Political Economy of Liberalizing Trade in Services

The Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites papers for a conference to be held 14-15 June, 2010. Paper proposals are invited on the conference theme: Political Economy of Liberalizing Trade in Services. The goal of the conference is to theoretically and empirically explore whether existing international political economy theories apply to services trade liberalization and how they might be revised. CfP: The EU’s Lisbon Treaty

The EU Centre of Excellence at Dalhousie University hereby invites paper proposals for its fourth Annual Conference which will take place at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada, from Sunday evening 6 June until Tuesday 8 June late afternoon.We are interested in papers covering the roles of the major actors during the negotiations, e.g. various member states, the Commission and the European Parliament. The role of the German Presidency hopefully can be covered in one of the papers. Obviously, it is hoped to get a paper on the problems of ratification in Ireland. Needless to say, there should be papers on the two member states derailing the Constitutional Treaty, France and the Netherlands, and difficult partners, such as the UK, Poland and the Czech Republic. Abstracts of paper proposals (max 500 words) and a short cv should be mailed to euce@dal.ca by 19 March 2010. A maximum of 24 papers will be accepted for the conference. Accepted paper titles will be listed on the EUCE’s website www.euce.dal.ca by 2 April 2010.

Seminar: Assessing Humanitarianism: Disaster & Data Dissemination

The organisers invite your participation in the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute’s (HCRI) 2nd ESRC funded seminar entitled Assessing Humanitarianism: Disaster & Data Dissemination. This event will take place on Friday 26 February 2010 in University Place lecture theatre 1.218 at The University of Manchester. In convening this seminar the HCRI will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to the evaluation of humanitarian aid. Exploring previous and current approaches we will review what various assessments entail, what they were aiming to measure, and highlight what these methodologies can reveal or conceal. Case studies, including that of the earthquake in Haiti, will be utilised to provide a context for discussions; intended outputs include the development of a novel and robust methodology for assessing the impact of humanitarian aid.

In addition, we are also hosting a public seminar on Haiti entitled Emergency in Haiti: Where Medics, Missionaries, and Militaries Collide. This event will also take place on Friday 26 February 2010 from 6pm to 8pm in University Place at The University of Manchester. Please see attached invite for further information.

The program chairs invite paper proposals for the “Returning to Katrina: Bringing Hurricane Katrina Research Back to the Community” conference, June 4-5, 2010, University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast, Long Beach, Mississippi. Issue areas may include any area or application of community resilience from all academic disciplines, including disaster mitigation, geographic and scientific perspectives, and economic, political, and social resilience. Abstracts for presentations should be between 250-500 words, and should be sent as attachments in a .doc, .docx, or .pdf format. The registration form is available online. CfP: Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change

The Berlin Conference Steering Committee and its partner, German Development Institute, invite papers for this year’s ‘Berlin Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change’. The 2010 conference will be the tenth event in the series of annual European Conferences. This year’s discussions will address the theme ‘Social dimensions of environmental change and governance’.
