CfP: Conflict of Interest

The program chairs invite participation in an interdisciplinary and international conference on “Conflict of Interest”, 7 – 8 May 2010, Basel, Switzerland. The objective is to develop an interdisciplinary and empirically grounded conceptual framework that links specific legal, social, political and economic tools to understand better how conflicts of interest can be defined, regulated, how they work in practice, at which level of governance they are most critical, and how they can be solved. CfP: International Conference on Adolescent Girls

The program chairs invite the experts, members and partners of the International Studies Association to participate in the upcoming international conference “Adolescent Girls – Cornerstone of Society: Building Evidence and Policies for Inclusive Societies,” to be held April 26-28, 2010 in New York. This conference will be jointly hosted by UNICEF and the Graduate Program in International Affairs (GPIA) at The New School, NY. Fellowship: US Embassy Policy Specialist (EPS) Program

IREX announces the start of the 2010-2011 competition for the US Embassy Policy Specialist (EPS) Program. EPS provides fellowships to U.S. scholars and professionals for up to eight weeks to serve U.S. Embassies in Eurasia as policy specialists on a chosen topic and pursue their own research project independently. EPS Grant covers the cost of travel and in-country housing and provides a stipend for living expenses. The EPS application and instructions are available on the IREX website. Completed applications are due no later than March 15, 2010.

CfP: Millennium Journal of International Studies

The annual conference of Millennium Journal of International Studies will take place on 16-17 October 2010 at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Papers are invited on the conference theme of International Relations in Dialogue. The conference will explore the concept and practice of dialogue in International Relations. A selection of the conference papers will be published in Millennium: Journal of International Studies, Volume 39, no. 3. The deadline for abstracts is 26 April 2010. CfA: UN Summer Study Program

The United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program will be offered from Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30, 2010, by the John C. Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University and the United Nations Association of the USA.  Designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, this unique program immerses participants in the political dynamics of the United Nations. The application materials can be downloaded from the Program website. The application deadline is May 1, 2010.

CfA: Freeman Foundation Summer Institute

The Japan Studies Association (JSA ) will be conducting its 8th Freeman Foundation Summer Institute on Japan from May 23-June 11th, 2010 for college teachers who have no prior background on Japan. The 3-week Institute is held in Honolulu, HI. The program covers up to $600 airfare, plus accommodations and most meals. CfP: Political Networks Conference

The Third Annual Political Networks Conference will be held May 19-21, 2010 at Duke University. The conference calls for paper proposals on all aspects of political networks. Submissions are encouraged from a wide range of disciplines including, but not limited to, political science, sociology, economics, anthropology, psychology, business, information systems, and complex systems. Methodological approaches may include, but are not limited to, statistical studies, laboratory and field experiments, ethnography, formal models, and computer simulations. Papers report on investigations of individual political behavior; interactions of individuals with traditional and online media; activist participation in interest groups, social movements, and political parties; interest group and corporate relationships with government agencies and officials; relationships within and among local, state, and federal government agencies; legislator communications and alliance formation; the political implications of international trade flows; ethnic cooperation and conflict; international alliances and conflict; and/or a wide range of other political topics.

Princeton-Harvard China and the World Program

Princeton University and Harvard University jointly founded the fellowship program for the advanced study of China’s international relations, the Princeton-Harvard China and the World Program (CWP), in 2005. The China and the World Program supports research that integrates theoretical innovations in the field of international relations with the rigorous study of China’s interactions with countries, regions, institutions, and non-state actors. In 2010-2011, the program will award several one-year “postdoctoral research associate” positions. Preference will be given to scholars who have defended their dissertations in the past few years and are currently working on revising their Ph.D. thesis for publication as a book or who are just beginning a second major project. J. David Singer, Former ISA President, Dies at 84

ISA mourns the loss of a pioneer in international studies. J. David Singer, a globally recognized scholar of international politics and former president of ISA (1985-86), died Monday, December 28, 2009 in Ann Arbor.  He was involved in an auto accident on September 22 and had been hospitalized since. At the time of his death, David Singer was Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan, where he’d been on faculty since 1958 until retiring in 2002. He was 84 years old. Continue reading...

Employment: Wellesley College

The program in Peace and Justice Studies at Wellesley College is seeking outstanding candidates for a two-year position in conflict resolution/conflict transformation. The successful candidate’s annual five-course teaching program would include a mid-level course in this area, sections of our introductory course, and upper-level courses on specific topics related to the candidate’s research. The program is especially interested in candidates whose conflict resolution research focuses on gender issues. The deadline for receipt of all application materials is Jan. 15, 2010.
