Call for Nominations: Heisler Award

The Martin O. Heisler Graduate Student Paper Award recognizes the best paper presented at a panel or poster session by a graduate student at the 2009 ISA Conference. Students matriculated in a graduate program (masters or doctorate) are eligible. Submissions must focus on at least one of the three principal areas of concern to the ENMISA Section: ethnicity, nationalism, and/or migration. Students who wish to enter the competition may submit papers and their contact information on or before January 1, 2010 to the Heisler Award Competition Coordinator Kamal Sadiq <kamal@uci.edu> by Jan. 1, 2010. Intelligence Studies Section Student Paper Award

The Intelligence Studies Section (ISS) of the International Studies Association is pleased to announce the first annual competition for the Intelligence Studies Section Student Paper Award. The award will be made annually by ISS in recognition of excellence for the best undergraduate or graduate student paper on a subject dealing with intelligence presented at the ISA annual conference. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any university or college in a humanities, social science, or similar program. Only papers submitted and presented at the 2010 ISA conference are eligible. Papers may not exceed 40 pages, including notes. Theses and other major research projects are not eligible, but chapters from theses, research projects, or dissertations may be submitted within the specified length. The author of the winning paper will receive a cash prize of $500. Submissions must include the author’s name, institution, and complete contact information.  All submissions are to be made in Word or PDF format. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Submissions should be submitted to the award committee chairman: Joe Faragone <joe.faragone@nrcan.rncan.gc.ca>. The deadline for submissions is 26 March 2010.

CfP: Asian Conference on the Social Sciences

The International Academic Forum in conjunction with its global partners is proud to announce the inaugural Asian Conference on the Social Sciences, to be held from June 18-21, 2010 at the Ramada Osaka Hotel, Osaka, Japan. Papers are invited on the theme East Meets West in Pursuit of a Sustainable World. The aim of ACSS is to encourage academics and scholars to meet and exchange ideas and views in a forum encouraging respectful dialogue. This international conference will bring together a number of university scholars working throughout Japan, Asia, and beyond to share ideas. ACSS 2010 will afford the opportunity for renewing old acquaintances, making new contacts, and networking across higher education. It is hoped that academics working in Japan and Asia will be encouraged to forge working relationships with each other, as well as with colleagues from Europe and the U.S., facilitating partnerships across borders. Call for Nominations: The Alger Prize

The Chadwick F. Alger Prize recognizes the best book published in the previous calendar year on the subject of international organization and multilateralism. The award committee is particularly interested in works dealing with how international organizations interact with nongovernmental organizations and other local civil society actors, as reflected in many of the writings of Chadwick F. Alger. The recipient may be at any stage of his or her career and from any country. The recipient receives a $250.00 (USD) cash prize from the International Organization account and a certificate. CfA: Freeman Foundation Summer Institute

The Japan Studies Association (JSA ) will be conducting its 8th Freeman Foundation Summer Institute on Japan from May 23-June 11th, 2010 for college teachers who have no prior background on Japan. The 3-week Institute is held in Honolulu, HI. The program covers up to $600 airfare, plus accommodations and most meals. CfA: Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences Fellowships

The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University (CASBS) invites applications for residential fellowships during the 2011-2012 academic year. JIBS Anniversary Issue

The Journal of International Business Studies announces a special anniversary issue. In 2008, the Academy of International Business (AIB) celebrated its 50th anniversary, and this year the official publication of the Academy of International Business, Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), celebrates its 40th anniversary. To commemorate these two milestones JIBS is now publishing a Special Issue, the "JIBS40/AIB50 Anniversary Issue: Innovations in International Business Theory".
