Annual Convention Pre-Registration Reminder

We are currently sending out registration reminders to convention participants. We ask all those who are on the program to register by October 15th in order to remain on the program. Should they fail to do so, they will be removed from the program and the Program Chair will begin to add others who have submitted worthy proposals and are on the waiting list. CfP: Gulf Research Meeting

The Gulf Research Center is pleased to announce the holding of the first Gulf Research Meeting to be held at Robinson College, University of Cambridge from July 7-10, 2010. The meeting is organized by the Gulf Research Center Foundation office at Cambridge and done with the support of the Center for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies of the University  of Cambridge. The overall purpose and objective of the Gulf Research Meeting is to create an academic environment to foster Gulf studies and provide broader academic exchange amongst scholars in the Gulf Region. For the first meeting, a total of twelve workshops along topical themes pertinent to the Gulf region have been identified and an open Call for papers has now been issued. For more details on the individual workshops and the registration process, please refer to the Gulf Research Meeting website. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 15, 2009.

Call for Nominations: The Cox Award

The award committee invites nominations for the Robert W. and Jessie Cox Award. This award honors the best graduate student paper of critical inquiry into international relations. The purpose of the prize is to encourage critical study of international political economy, world orders, and civilizations. Papers submitted should relate, broadly, to the main normative principles for which the Coxes stand, including: diffusion of power; democratization; mutual respect for distinct civilizations, concern for the biosphere; and, greater equality among societies, genders, and races. The winner will receive a $500.00 cash prize and a plaque at the awards presentations at the annual ISA conference in New Orleans in February 2010. Graduate students are invited to submit their papers for the competition themselves. In addition, department chairs, program directors, deans, chairs of sessions at ISA annual or regional meetings, or from chairs of sessions at other meetings of international studies associations are invited and encouraged to nominate submissions. All nominations should be sent electronically to Committee Chair Adam Harmes at: aharmes@uwo.ca. The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2009.

CfP: International Conference on Social Sciences

The 9th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Social Sciences will be held from June 2 (Wednesday) to June 5 (Saturday), 2010 at the Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii. The conference will provide many opportunities for academicians and professionals from social sciences related fields to interact with members inside and outside their own particular disciplines. Call for Nominations: Governing Council Election

ISA is soliciting nominations for the Non-North American members-at-large for the 2010-2011 term. Each year the International Studies Association elects three Non-North American members-at-large to our Governing Council for a two-year term, staggering the terms of office for the six representatives. Any ISA member may nominate a Non-North American ISA member to serve on the Governing Council; however, only Non-North American ISA members may vote in the election. Nominees must be individual ISA members residing outside of the United States and Canada. When nominating please determine that the nominee is willing to stand for election and serve if elected. Representatives are required to attend the ISA 2011-2012 Governing Council Meetings during the Annual Conventions. Please solicit nominees, or nominate yourself, for these three members-at-large positions. Contact information for both the nominator and the nominee should be included. Nominations may be made here. ISA Headquarters will accept nominations until November 16, 2009

Employment: Center for Nonproliferation Studies

The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) is seeking candidates to fill the position of Director, International Organizations and Nonproliferation Program (IONP). The director develops projects & initiatives on int'l organizations &  nonproliferation regimes, including policy research & publications,  diplomatic initiatives, outreach, teaching, fund-raising, & project  management. Previous experience in government, international organizations, and/or non-government institutions engaged in  multilateral nonproliferation analysis and policy formulation is  desirable. Position is open until filled.  Priority Deadline: October  30, 2009. Required Documents: cover letter, resume, writing sample of  at least five pages and a list of 3 references.
