CfP: Indian Journal of International Economic Law

The editorial board of the Indian Journal of International Economic Law (IJIEL), 2009-10, produced by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore are proud to invite submissions for the third issue of the journal from academicians, scholars and graduate students on topics relating to International Economic Law. All submissions are to be made via e-mail as .doc documents (Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007) by January 31, 2010. All submissions may be e-mailed to the following address: ijiel@nls.ac.in. BALWOIS 2010

The Fourth International Scientific Conference BALWOIS 2010 will be held in Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia, from 25 to 29 May 2010, Hotel Bellevue. The key objectives of BALWOIS project are to improve the scientific knowledge and the networking between the scientists, to favor a multidisciplinary approach, and to disseminate reliable and suitable information products to the end-users in the field of Climatic and Environmental changes and their impacts on the water resources management in order to reach the health and protection of the populations and to preserve the biodiversity of the aquatic ecosystems. BALWOIS bring together more than 800 members - water field's experts - from more than 100 institutions of which 80 belong to Balkan Peninsula. Abstracts should be submitted by Nov. 15, 2009. CfP: Graduate Conference in Political Science, IR & Public Policy

The 5th Annual Conference of Graduate Students in the fields of political science, international relations and public policy will convene in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on December 9-10, 2009.  Students of political phenomena who work in related fields are also welcomed to present their work in the conference (e.g. law, history, political economy, geography, philosophy, psychology, and communication). CfP: Southwest Council Of Latin American Studies

The Southwest Council Of Latin American Studies (SCOLAS) invites paper and panel proposals for its annual conference, to be held March 23-27, 2010 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The conference theme is "Rediscovering the Americas in a Post-American (?) World." Deadline for receipt of proposals is October 31, 2009. For more information, please see the SCOLAS website.

Jean Gebser Conference

The program chair invites participation in the 39th Annual International Jean Gebser Society Conference on the theme Identity, Civilization and Consciousness. The conference will be held October 15-17, 2009 at Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York. The keynote speaker will be Professor Bernard Neville, School of Educational Studies, La Trobe University. MyISA Access Restored

Some of you may have experienced difficulty accessing our MyISA system today. The University of Arizona suffered a campus wide network outage as noted on their system alert site:

At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23rd, a normally non-disruptive UPS maintenance procedure unexpectedly resulted in a campus wide network outage. Power was restored at 12:10 p.m.

Network services are currently being restored and we expect to be fully online no later than 4:00 p.m. today. As a result of this network outage, UA WebMail is experiencing residual problems, including trouble logging in.

Access to MyISA now appears to be fully restored. We are monitoring the situation and will keep you updated.

German Chancellor Fellowships

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation annually awards ten German Chancellor Fellowships to young professionals in the private, public, not-for-profit, cultural and academic sectors who are citizens of the United States. The program, which also includes fellowships for citizens of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China, sponsors individuals who demonstrate the potential to strengthen ties between Germany and their own country through their profession or studies. Candidates from all professions and disciplines, but especially individuals in the humanities, law, social sciences and economics, are eligible to apply. Prior knowledge of German is not a prerequisite. The October 31 application deadline for 2010-2011 fellowships is approaching. Annual Convention 2010 Program Posted

The preliminary program for the 2010 Annual Convention has now been posted to our website and to our MyISA system. ISA's 51st Annual Convention will take place from February 17-20 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel and the Loews New Orleans Hotel.

We have posted the program in a PDF format (above) on this, our public (no login required) website. You may view and browse the entire program online and use the binocular search icon (or Ctrl F on your keyboard) to search the program. You may also download the entire program to your computer and browse at your leisure.

In the MyISA system, you may search the program by keyword search of people (first name, last name, affiliation), sponsor (sections), title/abstract, day, and event title. You may also customize your panels and any panels you are interested in attending into your personalized My Program. You can then print your personalized program before the convention so that you know what you want to see each day.

CfP: Central Asia, Caucasus and Balkans Research Competition

The University of Delaware invites proposals for a national research competition entitled “Institutional Transition and Regional Linkages in Emerging Market Economies and Polities.” Research proposals should focus on the economic, political and business implications of the continuing transition to a free-market economy in one or more of these countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kirgiz Republic, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan. It is expected that more grants will be made for research in Central Asia than for the other regions. This competition provides funds for both collaborative and individual research projects. The primary scholar in an individual or collaborative project MUST be a US citizen or green card holder, and hold a PhD or be full-time graduate students at the ABD level. ISA Working Groups

The International Communications Section and Human Rights Section invite you to participate in a working group at our annual convention in New Orleans in 2010. By participating in a working group, conference attendees discuss the most thought-provoking issues in their sections as well as their own research through an extended and focused discussion.  Such dialogue will stimulate new research questions and project ideas, and may contribute to development of new communities of scholars. Participants meet within their working group on three separate occasions during the conference. The first meeting will occur in advance of the start of the panels and provides an opportunity for participants to create a framework to guide their interactions. Working group participants will then also meet towards the middle of the scheduled conference and again towards the end of the conference. Participants commit to attend a small group of related panels throughout the course of the meeting to discuss during their group meetings.
