Employment: University of St. Thomas

The Justice and Peace Studies Program at the University of St. Thomas is seeking creative and energetic candidates with both teaching ability and on-the-ground experience for a new clinical faculty position beginning September 1, 2009. Clinical faculty appointments are renewable indefinitely, assuming satisfactory performance. Clinical faculty are not eligible for and do not attain tenure. This position seeks to help students understand their education and future work as part of a call to work for peace, justice and reconciliation. Applications may be submitted online.

Participation Announcements for New Orleans 2010

The program chairs are busy evaluating the many proposals received and assembling the program for the 2010 Annual Convention in New Orleans and we expect to send participation announcements by e-mail the week of Sept. 21 - 25. We will begin sending announcement in staggered alphabetical order starting on Sept. 21st and concluding on Sept. 25th. If you submitted a proposal and have not received your participation confirmation by Friday, Sept. 25th, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you in New Orleans!

Call for Nominations: Susan S. Northcutt Award

The Board of Directors of the Women’s Caucus of the International Studies Association (WCIS) invites nominations for the annual Susan S. Northcutt Award. The award was established in 2003 by WCIS to honor the Caucus' founder, Susan S. Northcutt and recognizes a person who actively works towards recruiting and advancing women and other minorities in the profession, and whose spirit is inclusive, generous and conscientious. Furthermore, the recipient has made significant contributions through service and competence in the profession of international studies and to the International Studies Association. Nominations can be made through November 15th by sending a brief message outlining the nominee’s qualifications to WCIS Awards and Nominations Coordinator, Sandy McEvoy (sandra.mcevoy@umb.edu). CfP: Association of International Education Administrators

The Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) invites the submission of proposals for its 2010 conference at JW Marriott in Washington DC on Feb 15-17, 2010.  Pre-conference workshops will be held February 14-15.  The conference will begin in the afternoon of February 15 and end in the afternoon of February 17.  The theme for the 2010 AIEA conference is “Internationalizing Higher Education: Essential for our Future.” As the title implies, internationalizing our campuses will be core to maintaining academic and institutional excellence across all functions of the university.

Session proposals, due September 1, 2009, are invited to address the topic of internationalizing higher education in the US and globally across the full range of university functions. Further details can be found on the AIEA website. 

The Deborah Gerner Grant for Professional Development

The award committee invites nominations for the The Deborah Gerner Grant for Professional Development. The grant is awarded by the Women's Caucus of International Studies (WCIS) and sponsored by Lynne Rienner Publishers. Funds from this grant may be used to support any legitimate professional development need identified by the candidate. Some examples of possible uses include the following: (a) Travel to a professional meeting, (b) travel to conduct interviews, work with a colleague on a collaborative project, or field research, (c) purchase of databases, software, books, or other materials needed for research, or (d) participation in an appropriate pedagogy workshop or institute. Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program leading to a Ph.D., or must have earned a doctorate within the last five (5) years. Usually, only one grant of up to $2,000 will be awarded in any given year, but in exceptional circumstances more than one grant may be awarded. For more information please see the award website. ISA-South Annual Conference

Tennessee State University invites you to attend the annual conference of the International Studies Association-South (ISA-South). The conference will be held October 16-17, 2009 in Nashville, TN. Panels will focus on change in the theories and approaches of International Relations. The early registration period is now open until Sept. 14th (late fees apply after that).

CfP: Standing Group on International Relations

The ECPR Standing Group on International Relations is announcing its 7th Pan-European Conference to be held in Stockholm Sweden from 9-11 September 2010. The Steering Committee of the SGIR hereby issues a call for section convenors for the 2010 Pan-European Conference. Proposals should be made online on the conference website. Deadline: September 15, 2009.

5th ECPR General Conference

The 5th ECPR General Conference will be held at Potsdam Universität from 10-12 September 2009. The Academic Convenors for the conference are Professor Luciano Bardi (ECPR Executive Committee) and Professor Martin Bull (ECPR Academic Director). The main academic programme will be organised in the format of sections and panels, with each Section Chair organising a variety of panels in a different field. The programme is intended to be very broad, with over 50 accepted sections. ISA is sponsoring three panels: Development, capitalism, and peace; The capitalist interstate peace; and, A capitalist civil peace? Registration for the conference may be made here.

The European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) is an independent, scholarly association, established in 1970. The ECPR currently has nearly 350 European institutional members and associate members in over 40 countries, from as far afield as New Zealand and Japan. These members together form a network of thousands of individual political scientists, international relations and European studies specialists.

Conference - Identity Politics on the Internet

The Institute of Identity Research (IDmap) announces an international conference on Identity Politics on the Internet to be held in Kenya on the 27th to 29th of August 2009. The aim of the conference is to create discourse in the area of identity politics on the internet and other related topics. The conference will be attended by several leading scholars who have written and researched extensively on issues of Identity. We hope that this conference will result in solutions and better understanding of the problems facing issues of identity in the contemporary context. CfP: Annual Conference of Graduate Students, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem

The Hebrew University, Jerusalem, invites paper proposals for 5th Annual Conference of Graduate Students in the fields of political science, international relations and public policy. The conference will convene on Thursday, December 9-10th, 2009.  Students of political phenomena who work in related fields are also welcomed to present their work in the conference (e.g. Political and Law, Political History, Political Economy, Political geography, political philosophy, political psychology, and political communication). The Conference is held in memory of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The deadline for receipt of submissions is October 15th, 2009.
