CfP: Journal of Strategic Security

The Journal of Strategic Security (JSS), a quarterly publication of Henley-Putnam University, announces a call for articles that address global insurgency and terrorism. From the resurgence of Taliban militants in Pakistan to the presence of al-Qa`ida sympathizers and supporters in strategic theaters of conflict, what does the future hold for stability in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region? What strategies are most effective to combat insurgencies? What role do Special Forces and intelligence operations have on the contested battlefields of Afghanistan and possibly Pakistan? What regional policies need to be developed, refined, and implemented to tackle the increasingly complex strategic security environment across the South Asian landscape and the greater Middle East? Authors from around the globe are invited to share their perspectives on these and other strategic security issues - your creativity and unique perspective are welcome. CfP: Understanding Order, Cooperation & Variance among Non-State Armed Groups

Queen's University invites papers for a workshop on Understanding Order, Cooperation, and Variance among Non-State Armed Groups, September 19, 2009, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The workshop is interested in original papers that probe empirical and theoretical questions relating to why armed groups cooperate and what conditions account for variance in cooperation across and within regions. Papers that focus on one or multiple case studies drawn from Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle-East are particularly welcome.

Please submit the following 3 items via email: a 300-word (max.) abstract; a 100-word (max.) vitae paragraph; and an indication whether you require partial travel funding. The items may be pasted as text in the body of the email or attached in a pre-Vista version of Word. The Visiting Professor will carry out his/her activity within the Research Area of Economics and Institutional Change. A specific research group will be created to work on topics related to international economy, analysis of international trade patterns and related legal and institutional structures, business models and service sectors with high surplus value that support the internationalization of domestic firms, regulatory structures and industrial structures of international markets, including regulatory and administrative barriers and foreign direct investment. Employment: Monterey Institute

The Monterey Institute of International Studies is seeking to fill the position of Research Associate to conduct research and write timely analyses regarding the spread of weapons of mass destruction and means for their control. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The research associate will work with other CNS senior researchers and fellows in the Washington DC and Monterey offices, contribute to various research projects, write reports, articles and publications distributed through the CNS website and externally, engage in educational and outreach activities of the office, including the organization and assistance with briefings, conferences, and other events. The incumbent will also assist the Deputy Director with administrative tasks in the Washington DC office. Applications may be accepted online. This position is open until filled. Call for Nominations: Best Book of the Decade Award

ISA invites nominations for the International Studies Best Book of the Decade Award. The award honors the best book published in the field of international studies over the last decade. In order to be selected, the winning book must be a single book (edited volumes will not be considered) that has already had or shows the greatest promise of having a broad impact on the field of international studies over many years. Only books of this broad scope, originality, and interdisciplinary significance should be nominated. Nominations may be made by any individual member of ISA or by publishers. For more on the nomination process, please see the award website. Nominations are due by August 15, 2009.

CfP: AIEA Conference 2010

The Association of International Education Administrators  invites the submission of proposals for its 2010 conference at JW Marriott in Washington DC on Feb 15-17, 2010.  Pre-conference workshops will be held February 14-15.  The conference will begin in the afternoon of February 15 and end in the afternoon of February 17.  The theme for the 2010 AIEA conference is “Internationalizing Higher Education: Essential for our Future.” As the title implies, internationalizing our campuses will be core to maintaining academic and institutional excellence across all functions of the university. Session proposals, due September 1, 2009, are invited to address internationalizing higher education in the U.S. and globally across the full range of university functions.  Further details can be found on the AIEA website.

CfP: Economic Crisis and Children

UNICEF and ODI are pleased to announce the upcoming conference 'The impact of the global food, fuel, and financial crises and policy responses: A child-sensitive approach', which will take place in London. The tentative dates are currently November 9-10, 2009. The conference will convene development practitioners, policy experts and academic researchers from around the world to examine the ways in which the food and fuel price volatility, financial market volatility and global economic slowdown are affecting children and youth in both developing and developed countries and recommend policy responses.

Submitted papers should draw upon original research, evidence from past crises or first-hand policy-making experience to advance the discussion of how best to ensure children's access to services during and after the crisis. Abstracts are needed by July 31, 2009: see the call for papers (PDF) for more details on the focus of the conference as well as submission details.
