CfP: Development in Practice

The journal Development in Practice invites papers for a special issue on Food Security and Poverty. This special issue will assemble and compare empirical evidence of impacts on poor farmers and consumers across a range of food systems, including traditional, food-importing, and food-exporting economies. Selected country and regional case studies will be supported by thematic articles that compare effects among rural and urban populations, explore gender-related differences and farmers’ risks from price volatility, and highlight linkages to input markets. Relevant case studies from all global regions will be considered, submissions are particularly sought focusing on China, Central Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and small island states, as well as on rising food insecurity in the OECD nations. Article outlines and abstracts are due 1 June 2009 by e-mail to editor@developmentinpractice.org with Guest Issue: Global Food Price Shocks and Poor People in the subject line.

CfP: Strategic Behavior and the Environment

The newly established journal Strategic Behavior and the Environment , published by Now Publishers  provides a platform for various disciplines that jointly contribute to our understanding of strategic behavior in design and implementation of environmental policy.  Scholars in economics (including experimental economics, political economy, and game theory), political science, international relations, negotiation, and other relevant disciplines, are invited to submit manuscripts for publication consideration, following a peer-review process.  Submit a manuscript (following instructions on the journal website) for publication consideration to Prof. Ariel Dinar, Water Science and Policy Center, University of California, Riverside, USA (adinar@ucr.edu).

Call for Nominations: The Finkelstein Prize

ISA's International Organization Section is seeking high quality graduate student papers that were presented (on a panel or as a poster) at the 2009 Annual Convention for competition to win the Lawrence S. Finkelstein Prize. Papers must discuss international organization, as broadly defined. Students are permitted to edit the paper presented at the conference, as long as the paper remains unchanged in substance. The Section particularly welcomes submissions from outside the United States. The prize will be awarded at the IO Business Meeting at the upcoming Convention. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize plus a travel grant for up to $500 to attend the 2010 ISA Convention. The Section also encourages the prize recipient to submit the paper to the journal Global Governance for possible publication. Students should email their papers to Prize Committee Chair Eric K. Leonard, at eleonard@su.edu. Please include "Finkelstein Prize Submission" in the subject line. In the email, note the panel or poster session on which you presented the paper. The deadline for submissions is 30 June 2009.

CfP: Journal of Strategic Security

The Journal of Strategic Security (JSS) announces a call for articles that address threats to international security. From jihadists bent on acquiring and using weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to shooters on a school campus, security threats can emanate from virtually anywhere and can affect every corner of the globe. What are the pressing threats to international security and stability? What actors, including states and terrorist groups, pose an over-the-horizon threat? What can we do to better anticipate and counter threats before they become a reality? While any region of the world may be considered, including the United States, those that look specifically at Russia, the Caucus region, and the brewing conflict in Afghanistan and inner turmoil in Pakistan will be given special consideration. Symposium: Accountability After Mass Atrocity

The Center for Global Studies and the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, both at George Mason University, are organizing a symposium, "Accountability After Mass Atrocity: Latin American and African Examples in Comparative Perspective", on May 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. Participants will explore differences in each context with respect to conceptualizing key actors, such as victims, perpetrators, impartial judges, witnesses, and others, and also core concepts, such as accountability, justice, sovereignty, healing, transnationalism, reparations, reconciliation, among others. Moreover, the conference is especially concerned to examine the role of regional and international courts in accountability efforts in each context, and particularly their effects on domestic initiatives, shedding light on several key issues from a comparative perspective.
