CAMOS-Journal of Strategic Studies Graduate Student Paper Award

The Committee for the Analysis of Military Operations and Strategy (CAMOS) in conjunction with The Journal of Strategic Studies, announces its 2009 competition for best graduate student paper in the field of strategic studies. The prize will consist of a certificate and $150 cash award to be presented at the 2009 APSA annual meeting in Toronto. The winning paper will be published in The Journal of Strategic Studies, with special acknowledgment as the year's prize winner. Nominations may be submitted by authors, faculty advisors, department chairs, or other scholars familiar with the research. Nominations should include a cover letter with the nominee's complete contact information and an electronic file (PDF preferred) with all text and supporting figures or tables. Submissions should be sent to: Patricia Sullivan, CAMOS Prize Committee Chair, tsulli@uga.edu. The deadline for receipt of submissions for the award is June 19, 2009. Conference: Taking Stock of Transitional Justice

Oxford Transitional Justice Research (OTJR) is pleased to release the full programme for the international conference, "Taking Stock of Transitional Justice", to be hosted at the University of Oxford on 26-28 June 2009. Featuring an exciting array of established experts and new thinkers, the conference will provide the basis for re-orienting the study and practice of transitional justice. CfP: 2009 Amsterdam Conference on Earth System Governance

The organizers invite you to attend the 2009 Amsterdam Conference on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, to be held 2-4 December 2009. This conference will be the ninth event in the series of annual European Conferences on the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, begun in Berlin in 2001. This year's conference will also be the global launch event of the Earth System Governance Project, a new ten-year research programme under the auspices of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP). Deadline for paper abstracts: 15 May 2009; full papers due: 15 November 2009.

Fulbright Scholar Program

The Fulbright Scholar Program for U.S. Faculty and Professionals for 2010-2011 is now open. The Fulbright Scholar Program offers 115 grants in lecturing, research or combined lecturing/research awards in political science, including 11 Fulbright Distinguished Chairs, the Africa Regional Research Program, and the Middle East and North Africa Regional Research program. Even better, faculty and professionals in political science also can apply for one of the 144 "All Discipline" awards open to all fields. The application deadline is August 1, 2009. U.S. citizenship is required. University of Westminster Conferences on China & Tibet

The University of Westminster announces two conferences dealing with Tibet and China. Since March 2008, Tibet has frequently been in the international news with contrasting images, explanations and representations. Rather than seeing the Tibet question in isolation, we seek to understand it within the wider context of politics and international relations of China, India and the West. Following on from two previous events (in March and April) with eminent Tibetologists from China discussing reforms, history, and development in Tibet, we announce the final two conferences in the series. First, on 22 May (Alternative Futures for the Tibetan Diaspora) and then on 23 May (China, India and the Himalayas) we will examine these issues, the conference will take place in London. Call for Applications - Australian Responsibility to Protect Fund

The Asia-Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect is calling for applications for support under the Australian Responsibility to Protect Fund from research institutions and non-governmental organisations that have a demonstrated capacity to produce high quality research or programs of work. The Australian Responsibility to Protect Fund was announced by the Foreign Minister in 2008 and will be administered by the Asia-Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect as part of its joint initiative with AusAID. Applications should focus on either one of two Priority Themes: (1) Advancing the Responsibility to Protect concept; (2) Supporting States to build capacity to protect populations and prevent genocide and mass atrocities. The Australian Responsibility to Protect Fund will accept proposals for up to two years of funding.  Applicants can apply for funding between $25,000 and $100,000 per year over the course of the research project or program of work. Applications outside these limits may be considered. Applications must be received before 5pm EST on Friday 5 June 2009.
