CfP: Fences and Walls in International Relations

Paper and panel proposals on the theme Fences and Walls in International Relations are invited for a conference to be held in Montreal on April 1st 2009 under the auspices of the Raoul-Dandurand Chair of Strategic and Diplomatic Studies at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). The conference will be based on a multi-disciplinary approach, and therefore all proposals and all fields will be considered. Priority will be given to graduate students. CfP: CEEISA 2009 Conference

The Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA) would like to invite you to participate in its 7th Convention , held on September 2-4, 2009, at the School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University, Russian Federation.

Congressional Research Grants

The Dirksen Congressional Center invites applications for grants to fund research on congressional leadership and the U.S. Congress. A total of up to $30,000 will be available in 2009. Awards range from a few hundred dollars to $3,500. The competition is open to individuals with a serious interest in studying Congress.  Political scientists, historians, biographers, scholars of public administration or American studies, and journalists are among those eligible.  The Center encourages graduate students who have successfully defended their dissertation prospectus to apply and awards a significant portion of the funds for dissertation research.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens who reside in the United States. The awards program does not fund undergraduate or pre-Ph.D. study.  Organizations are not eligible.  Research teams of two or more individuals are eligible.  No institutional overhead or indirect costs may be claimed against a Congressional Research Award. CfP: Globalisation and European Integration

A conference on critical approaches to European integration will place on the 5th and 6th of June 2009 at the University of Warwick. The conference invites specialists from the fields of politics, international relations, international political economy and sociology to build on their experience of applying historical materialist theories in empirical settings related to global governance and regional integration, with an emphasis on the European Union (EU). Working papers designed to stimulate dialogue between invited speakers, Warwick research staff and postgraduate students will introduce workshops in this two-day event. CfP: 2009 Millennium Annual Conference

The annual conference of Millennium Journal of International Studies will take place on the 17th-18th of October 2009 at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The conference theme After Liberalism? focuses on the role of liberalism today and in the future. The Millennium 2009 Conference, marking the twentieth anniversary since the end of the Cold War, presents a unique opportunity to put recent developments in international relations into theoretical perspective. This conference seeks to address the role and critiques of liberalism in IR theory and practice today. 2009 ACUNS Dissertation Award

The dissertation award recognizes the excellence and promise of a young scholar at the Ph.D., J.S.D. or LL.M. level, engaged in the writing stage of their program. Applicants must submit three copies of each of the following: (a) a dissertation proposal; a representative dissertation chapter; or a description of the research, of no more than 25 pages in length; (b) CV; and (c) two letters of reference. Democracy & Society is seeking well-written, interesting submissions of 800-2000 words on the theme Authoritarian Consolidation, US Foreign Policy, and the Future of Democracy Assistance, including summaries and/or excerpts of recently completed research, new publications, and work in progress. Governing Council Election Results

Each year the International Studies Association elects three Non-North American members-at-large to our Governing Council for a two-year term, staggering the terms of office for the six representatives. Representatives are required to attend the ISA 2010 and 2011 Governing Council Meetings during the Annual Conventions. The election was held December 3 through December 15, 2008.  Final voting was by electronic ballot and each ISA member outside of the United States and Canada received a ballot. The deadline for returning ballots was December 15, 2008. We would like to announce that Iver Neumann (Norwegian Institute of International Affairs), Henk Overbeek (VU University Amsterdam), and Shirin Rai (University of Warwick), have been elected to the ISA Governing Council for the 2010-2011 term. Congratulations to the new representatives.
