IREX Travel Grants

The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2009-2010. Short-Term Travel Grants (STG) Program The STG Program provides fellowships to U.S. scholars and professionals for up to eight weeks of overseas research on contemporary political, economic, historical, or cultural developments relevant to U.S. foreign policy. The STG application and supporting materials are available on the IREX website. Completed applications are due no later than February 2, 2009.

CfP: World Civic Forum

The World Civic Forum (WCF), jointly initiated by Kyung Hee University and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), will hold its inaugural forum on May 5-8, 2009 at the COEX in Seoul, Korea under the main theme of Building Our Humanitarian Planet. As a venue for global reflection and dialogue to enhance future civilizations, it will address the internationally agreed development goals including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) from various perspectives of education, research, and practice. Paper and panel proposals are invited from scholars, international organization leaders, NGO leaders, government officials, corporation representatives, journalists, etc. Proposals may be submitted online by completing the Paper and Proposal Submission Form at the WCF 2009 official website. The deadline for proposal submissions is January 31, 2009.

ISA Election: Non-North American Representatives

Each year the International Studies Association elects three Non-North American members-at-large to our Governing Council for a two-year term, staggering the terms of office for the six representatives.  Representatives are required to attend the ISA 2010 and 2011 Governing Council Meetings during the Annual Conventions. The election will be held December 3 through December 15, 2008.  Final voting will be by electronic ballot. Each ISA member outside of the United States and Canada will receive a ballot. CfP: Albanian Journal of Politics

The Albanian Journal of Politics is seeking contributions for a special issue addressing the implications of ethnicity in contemporary politics. Of particular interest are articles focusing on the roots of ethnic conflict, conflict resolution, and reconstruction and nation-building in the aftermath of ethnic conflict. Articles from political science’s sub-disciplines are encouraged although interdisciplinary manuscripts will also be considered. Submission of full manuscripts should be sent electronically both to ajp@alpsa.org by December 30, 2008. Selection decisions will be made by March 10, 2009. Hayward R. Alker Post-Doctoral Fellowship Competition

CIS invites applications from scholars who specialize in gender and international relations broadly conceived to participate in the Hayward R. Alker Post-Doctoral Fellowship Competition 2009-10. Gender and international relations spans a wide range of topics but we are especially eager to encourage applications from scholars focusing on gender issues associated with topics related to the global economy, international security, democracy, or human rights. The competition is open to junior scholars: those who have received a Ph.D. within the last 3 years or who will have defended a dissertation by August 2009. Equivalent experience is not accepted. No English tests are required. Applications from a variety of disciplines, including the social sciences, humanities and communications are encouraged. Application materials must be postmarked on or before January 9, 2008.

Northedge Essay Competition

The 24th Northedge Essay Competition is now open. Established in 1986 to commemorate the invaluable contribution of the late Professor F.S. Northedge to the creation of Millennium Journal of International Studies, the annual Northedge Essay Competition furthers a Millennium tradition of publishing well-argued student work in a journal open to new issues and innovative approaches to International Relations. The winning essay is generally published in the first issue of each volume. The deadline for submissions is January 15th, 2009.
