Kennesaw State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Executive Director for the Institute for Global Initiatives. As the university’s chief international programs officer, the Executive Director of the Institute for Global Initiatives reports to the Associate Provost. The Executive Director is responsible for working closely with the President’s Cabinet, deans, department heads, faculty, staff and students to implement the Quality Enhancement Plan of KSU’s ambitious “Global Learning for Engaged Citizenship” initiative that is a core part of the of the University’s recent reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS). The Search Committee will begin reviewing candidate files in February and applications/nominations will be accepted until the position is filled. World Social Science Forum

The International Social Science Council (ISSC) has chosen Bergen to be the venue of the first World Social Science Forum. They invite you to attend this important world conference in May 2009. Participants are invited to submit papers on the conference theme One Planet - Worlds Apart. Those who submit papers, must provide a concise and readable abstract of not more than 250 words by February 1, 2009. The research reported should be original and not published before (it may be submitted, but not yet printed in a professional journal. If it has been accepted for publication, the journal should be identified). The body of the abstract should include the purpose of the research, and a brief overview of methods, results and conclusions. Deliberative Democracy and Participative Practice Symposium

Paper proposals are invited for the Deliberative Democracy and Participative Practice Symposium hosted by the journal Public Administration and Management. All paper submissions will follow standard blind peer review procedures described on the journal's web site. Submissions should be made directly to Dr. Margaret Stout at: margaret.stout@bridgew.edu. All papers should be submitted by March 15, 2009.

Human Rights Section Call for Nominations

This is a second call for nominations for the Executive Committee of the Human Rights Section of the International Studies Association.  Due to an insufficient number of nominations it is necessary to extend the deadline to January 5, 2009. We are seeking nominations for the following positions:

• Chair-Elect (this individual will assume the position of Chair in 2010 and serve in that position for two years)
• Two at-large positions on the Executive Committee (two-year terms).

New officers will begin their terms after the section business meeting on February 17, 2009. You must be a member of the Human Rights section to nominate or run for one of these positions. NATO Panel TSA Conference 2009

Submissions are invited for the NATO panel at the 8th Annual Transatlantic Studies Association Conference, 13-16 July 2009, Canterbury Christ Church University, Canterbury, UK. The organizers of the NATO panels envisage to a broad overview over the politico-military aspects of NATO during its 60 years of existence and invite contributions offering new insights into central aspects of the history of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. CfP: BC Journal of International Affairs

The Bologna Center Journal of International Affairs is seeking submissions for its 2009 issue. The Journal invites submissions on this year's theme ('The End of Capitalism') as well as submissions on more general issues of international relations and international economics. CfP: ISA-APR Inaugural Conference

The ISA-Asia Pacific Region (ISA-APR) of ISA invites paper and panel proposals for our inaugural conference to be held July 1-2, 2009, in Brisbane, Australia. The conference theme is: Regions, States, Peoples, and People in a World of Different Worlds. The Bennett Award

The Bennett Award was established in honor of Professor A. LeRoy Bennett, who taught international relations for more than forty years at Michigan State University, Drake University, and the University of Delaware from which he retired in 1995 as Professor Emeritus. The Award is sponsored by the International Studies Association Northeast Region (ISA - NE). The competition recognizes the best paper presented at the ISA Northeast Regional Conference by a scholar who holds a PhD. Papers presented at the ISA Northeast Regional Conference may be nominated during or after the conference by the conference panel chair, discussant, or paper-presenter. The winner receives a cash prize of $100.00 and a certificate. The application deadline is December 15th.

CfP: MACLAS 2009

Paper and panel proposals are invited for the Mid-Atlantic Council of Latin American Studies (MACLAS) Annual Conference, to be held March 6-7, 2009 at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. The conference theme is: Latin America and the World: Challenges and Opportunities.

The 2009 MACLAS conference encourages panel proposals, from faculty, students and practitioners, that advance research focusing on the impact of globalization - broadly understood – on the ecology, natural resources, culture, and politics of Latin America. The program organizers welcome interdisciplinary research with insights from the social sciences and the humanities to explore the interactions between Latin America and the world. Additionally, the organizers will consider a limited number of workshop proposals that aim at informing students and faculty on issues such as study abroad programs in Latin America, academic publishing, the road to tenure, and the use of technology in the classroom.

Abstracts (300-word) for individual papers or complete panel proposals in English or Spanish via email (subject heading "MACLAS") should be submitted no later than December 15, 2008 to the program chairs. For more information, please see the conference website.
