CfP: Midwest Political Science Association

The Midwest Political Science Association invites paper proposals for their 67th national conference to be held April 2-5, 2009, Chicago, IL. With over 900 sessions and over 3,000 papers, it is one of the largest in the discipline. All subfields within Political Science are represented, and there are also many people from outside the discipline who attend and present on related topics. With an exhibit hall that is over 50,000 square feet, there will be many book publishers and acquisition editors. Travel Grant Deadline

ISA has a limited amount of funding available to supplement the travel budget of our convention participants, and we encourage you to take advantage of multiple sources of funding as you prepare to travel to New York. You may apply for a travel grant using the MyISA system, login here. Travel grant applications must be received by Friday, Sept. 12, 2008.

Southwest Council Of Latin American Studies

From March 11-14, 2009, the Southwest Council of Latin American Studies (SCOLAS) will hold its annual conference in Santo Domingo.  The theme of the 2009 SCOLAS Conference is “One World, Many Worlds: Composing the Americas.”  SCOLAS welcomes proposals for individual papers or whole panels from across the academic disciplines. To submit a paper proposal and/or panel proposal please visit http://www.baylor.edu/scolas and complete the appropriate form(s).  Note that panels are limited to four papers maximum.  The deadline for receipt of proposals is October 31, 2008.

Participant Registration Deadline

This is a reminder about the participant registration deadline for the ISA Annual Convention 2009. All ISA convention participants must pre-register by October 13th to reserve their place on the program. Registration rates and multiple methods of registration are found on the registration website. International Essay Competition

An international essay competition and workshop is announced by the Irmgard Coninx Foundation, the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB), and the Humboldt-University Berlin at the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the WZB. Submissions on the theme Urban Governance: Innovation, Insecurity and the Power of Religion are invited. 50 successful applicants to the essay competition will be invited to discuss their research with prominent scholars at some of Europe’s leading research institutions. The workshop will take place at the Social Science Research Center Berlin on 18 – 23 March 2009. The Irmgard Coninx Foundation will cover travel and accommodation costs. The UNU-Cornell Africa Series

The UNU-Cornell Africa Series symposium entitled "The Social and Economic Dimensions of HIV/AIDS in Africa" will take place on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium, at the UN Headquarters in New York, from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM. The organizers are engaging further participation via video conference for the morning session of the symposium with colleagues in Accra, Ghana, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Lusaka, Zambia in order to get their perspective on the issues. The Charles Bronfman Prize

The Charles Bronfman Prize has launched its 2009 award cycle, marking the start of this year's international quest for extraordinary, young humanitarians. The Prize celebrates the vision and talent of an individual or team under 50 years of age, whose humanitarian work has contributed significantly to the betterment of the world. The Prize awards the recipient(s) $100,000. Nominations will be accepted until November 30, 2008. Past nominators have come from universities, scientific institutions, medical centers, community leaders, philanthropists, and the non-profit, private and public sectors. Berlin Seminar

Bradley University's annual Berlin Seminar will be held from July 5 through July 11, 2009. This program is intended for academics interested in the history and contemporary culture, society, economy, and politics of Germany and Europe. Centered at the European Academy in Berlin-Grunewald, the seminar activities include discussions with leaders from the realms of academia, culture, and politics. There will also be guided trips to points of historical and contemporary interest, including a day trip to Dresden. All sessions are conducted in English or with a translator. The cost is $1600, which includes room and board in Berlin, the seminar program, and the Dresden trip. Applications are due by January 15, 2009. World Leadership Forum 2008

The Foreign Policy Association announces the World Leadership Forum 2008 will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 23 - Wednesday, Sept. 24. The Forum will be held in New York City at The St. Regis, PriceWaterHouseCoopers, The Waldorf-Astoria and The Pierre and will feature two days of panel discussions and keynote speeches from leaders in business, academia and international relations, focusing on energy, the world economy and other critical issues.
