DoD Minerva Research Initiative

The U.S. Department of Defense is funding $50 million in new basic research initiatives, most involving political behavior/sources of irrationality in IR. Project Minerva was reviewed in a story by Patricia Cohen in The New York Times on June 18th (Pentagon to Consult Academics on Security) and in Wired News (Pentagon Kicks Off Social Science Consortium) on June 16th. ISA members who would like to submit proposals should note that four page white papers are due July 25 - and this information (PDF) is the only announcement (there is no formal RFP solicitation). Full proposals are due October 3, 2008. Note that participation by international universities and researchers is being encouraged.
