Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research

The International Social Science Council announces the call for nominations for the XIIIth (2008) and XIVth (2009) Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research is now open. The prize is open to all social science disciplines and the deadline for submission of nominations is 1 December 2008. Both prizes will be awarded during the World Social Science Forum to be held in Bergen, Norway from 10-12 May 2009. More information can be found on the ISSC website.

20th ACSUS Biennial Conference

The Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS) welcomes proposals for papers, roundtables, workshops and poster presentations at its 20th Biennial meeting to be held in San Diego, California, November 18-22, 2009.  ACSUS is a multidisciplinary organization that seeks to encourage the study of Canada and U.S.-Canadian relations. We welcome submissions from academics and professionals in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, business, education and the natural and life sciences.  The theme for this biennial in North by Northwest, South by Southwest, Canada and the United States: Past, Present and Future. All proposals should have a distinctive Canadian focus, but we also encourage submissions that consider Canada in a comparative context.  For more information, please see the Association website. Society for Applied Anthropology Annual Meeting

The Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) invites abstracts (papers and posters) for the Program of the 69th Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, NM, March 17-21, 2009.  The theme of the Program is Global Challenge, Local Action: Ethical Engagement, Partnerships and Practice. The Society is a multi-disciplinary association that focuses on problem definition and resolution.  We welcome papers from all disciplines.  The deadline for abstract submission is October 15, 2008. Finkelstein Graduate Student Paper Award

ISA’s International Organization Section is seeking high quality graduate student papers that were presented (on a panel or as a poster) at the 2008 Annual Convention for competition to win the Lawrence S. Finkelstein Prize. Papers must discuss international organization, as broadly defined. Students are permitted to edit the paper presented at the conference, as long as the paper remains unchanged in substance. The Section particularly welcomes submissions from outside the United States. The submission deadline is June 30, 2008. For more information, please see the award website.

2008 Seminar on Human Rights

The World Federation of United Nations Associations announces the 2008 Seminar on Human Rights, 13-16 July 2008, Palais des Nations, Geneva. The Seminar aims at stimulating debate between the speakers and the participants on the progress made by the Human Rights Council and other UN mechanisms for the promotion of human rights worldwide and to assess how these have had an impact on the concept of universality of human rights. Particular attention will be paid to the recently launched Universal Periodic Review.

The 4th Annual Graduate Student Conference in Political Science

Paper proposals are invited for the Annual Graduate Student Conference in Political Science, to be held December 18, 2008 at the Hebrew University. The conference is the major national graduate students event in Israeli Political Science. It is held in memory of the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Our aim is to facilitate the exchange of ideas among graduate students and between them and faculty. The aim is to provide a comfortable and friendly forum and arena for graduate students to share their work with their colleagues while learning about the emerging trends in research and related disciplines. The program chairs believe, and after three conferences also confident, that the participation of graduate students in an annual conference is an extremely rewarding experience and is a major event in their professional socialization. Papers in political science, international relations,  public policy are welcome. The deadline for receipt of submissions is October 1st, 2008. ISA-NE Annual Conference

The annual conference of the International Studies Association-Northeast (ISA-NE) will be held October 3-4, 2008 at the Holiday Inn Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD.
