Webster University-Thailand is seeking a Director of the Master’s of Arts Degree in International Relations at our Center in Bangkok. This full time, 12-month position includes administrative, teaching, and advising responsibilities. Administratively, the successful candidate is expected to plan the curriculum, recruit qualified faculty, orient and mentor new faculty, and assist with student recruiting.  Teaching responsibilities include teaching four courses a year including one within our innovative Global MA in International Relations.  The director also serves as the graduate student advisor. ENMISA Distinguished Scholar

The Ethnicity, Nationalism and Migration Studies (ENMISA) Section is pleased to announce the winners of its annual competitions. The 2008 Distinguished Scholar is Aristide R. Zolberg (New School for Social Research). There will be a roundtable panel honoring his contributions on Friday, March 26 from 3:45 - 5:30 during the ISA convention.

ESS Newsletter

The Environmental Studies Section newsletter is being e-mailed to section members and it can also be found on the section website. The next edition will be April 2008. ISSS Award Announcement

The International Security Studies Section of the International Studies Association will make two awards at its ISA Annual Convention reception:

The ISSS Distinguished Scholar Award goes to Professor Richard Rosecrance of Harvard University. The committee, composed of T.V. Paul (Chair), Karen Adams and Risa Brooks, commend Professor Rosecrance for his impressive set of scholarly works spanning over 50 years as well as his mentoring of many scholars who have become leaders in their field.

The inaugural winner of the ISSS Best Book Award goes to David A. Welch's  Painful Choices: A Theory of Foreign Policy Change, Princeton University Press, 2005. The award was for the best book published in the year 2005 or 2006. It was very competitive, with 111 books submitted to the committee, composed of Patricia Weitsman (Chair), Chris Demchak, and William Wohlforth.

Journal of International Business Studies

Submissions are invited for a special issue of the Journal of International Business Studies on the theme Conflict, Security and Political Risk: International Business in Challenging Times. For more information, pleas see the JIBS website. The submission deadline is: 17 October 2008.

Research Opportunity for Undergraduates

Pending funding approval from the National Science Foundation, this summer (2008), the Department of Political Science at Oklahoma State University will host the fourth annual Democracy and World Politics Summer Research Program for undergraduates. This program presents a valuable opportunity for undergraduate students to conduct faculty –mentored research projects. The program is designed to provide undergraduate students with valuable educational experiences through its support of research participation. Students will work in one of three issue areas: Foreign Policy in a Democracy; Democratization and Democracy Promotion; Democracy and Conflict. All application material is located on the Oklahoma State University Department of Political Science website.  The application deadline is March 15, 2008.

IREX Grant Opportunity for US Scholars & Professionals

The IREX Short-Term Travel Grant program seeks to attract, select, and support in-depth field research by US scholars and experts in policy-relevant subject areas related to Southeast Europe and Eurasia, as well as to disseminate knowledge about these regions to a wide network of constituents in the United States and abroad. The STG Program provides fellows with the means to conduct in-country research on contemporary political, economic, historical, and cultural developments relevant to US foreign policy. The STG Program plays a vital role in supporting the emergence of a dedicated and knowledgeable cadre of US scholars and experts who can enrich the US understanding of developments in Southeast Europe and Eurasia. STG provides fellowships for up to eight weeks to US postdoctoral scholars and holders of other graduate degrees for independent or collaborative research projects in Europe and Eurasia.
