The Susan S. Northcutt Award was established in 2003 by the Women's Caucus for International Studies (WCIS) to honor the Caucus' founder, Susan S. Northcutt. The award recognizes a person who actively works towards recruiting and advancing women and other minorities in the profession, and whose spirit is inclusive, generous and conscientious. Furthermore, the recipient has made significant contributions through service and competence in the profession of international studies and to the International Studies Association.

WCIS has created a separate fund to support this award. Persons wishing to make a donation to this fund can send a check to ISA Headquarters. The check should be payable to ISA, with a notation that it is for the WCIS Susan S. Northcutt Award Fund.
Submission/Nomination
- The award is made annually on the basis of nominations by member(s) of the ISA and selection by the Executive Committee of WCIS.
- Nominations can be made through November 30 by sending a brief message outlining the nominees qualifications to WCIS Awards and Nominations Coordinator, LAURA SJOBERG (sjoberg@ufl.edu).
Prize
- The recipient receives an award certificate.
- The award is presented in person at the ISA Business Meeting of the Annual Convention.
Award Committee
The Committee Chair is responsible for sending award information to the ISA Award Coordinator and for notifying the recipient of the award and encouraging the recipient to attend the Annual Convention at which the award is to be presented so as to receive the award in person.
