The ILAW Best Paper Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of international law by graduate students.
Award Details
- Papers may be single- or multi-authored. However, all presenters/authors MUST be graduate students at the time the paper is presented.
- The subject matter of the paper must fall into the broadly defined category of international law. Questions regarding the scope of the subject will be resolved by the sole discretion of the Selection Committee.
Submission/Nomination
- Papers must be submitted by the author of the paper. If requested, the student must be able to provide evidence that he/she was a student at the time the paper was presented.
- A paper must be submitted with a cover sheet must be accompanied by a cover sheet that includes the title, name of author(s), institutional affiliation(s), and contact information. For multi-authored submissions, the cover sheet should designate one author as the point of contact, and provide only that person’s contact information. The authors’ names must not appear in the paper itself, nor should any acknowledgements.
- Papers must be submitted to the Secretary of the International Law Section, not the Selection Committee members directly. Papers may be submitted in hard copy (include three copies) or by e-mail. The Secretary shall forward paper submissions, with the cover sheets redacted, to the Committee members. Contact information for the ILAW Section Secretary will be available on the ILAW Section website.
- Decisions of the Selection Committee are final.
- Nominations may only be submitted by a member of the International Law Section.
- Nominated papers should be submitted with the author's permission to the International Law Section Chair.
- Student papers must have been presented at the previous year’s ISA Convention and nominated and submitted by September 1st following the presentation. For example, papers eligible for the 2013 award must have been presented at the 2012 ISA Convention and be submitted to by September 1st, 2012. Mail one (1) copy, or email (preferred) to Charlotte Ku, Lorna Lloyd, Davis Brown.

Prize
- The winner will be announced at the Section Business Meeting and will be awarded a cash prize of $200 and an award certificate.
