Submission/Nomination
- The Competition is open to any student who is enrolled in a graduate degree program (masters or doctoral) at the time of the annual ISA conference.
- To be eligible for the competition, the student should have attended the 2010 ISA annual meeting and presented his/her paper as a member of a panel or poster session.
- The content of the paper must be related to at least one of the three main focus areas of ENMISA–ethnicity, nationalism and migration.
- Each nomination must include a cover letter highlighting specific scientific merits (not merely generic praise) and an updated curriculum vitae of the nominee, including verifiable date of birth and date of the doctoral degree.
- Students who wish to enter the competition may submit papers and their contact information on or before October 1 to the Competition Coordinator.
Selection
- The criteria for judging the papers include mastery of the field, originality, logic, organization, and documentation. ENMISA encourages not only the submission of dissertation related research, but also outstanding seminar papers. We emphasize original "think-pieces" and research rather than assessments of the literature.
Prize
- Two prizes may be awarded: Grand Prize 1st place –$200.00 and a one year paid membership in ISA and the ENMISA section; First Runner Up– $100.00. The winners will be announced at the next ENMISA business meeting.
- Note: The Selection Committee reserves the right to decide not to award prizes if there are not a sufficient number of papers submitted for consideration or if the committee decides that the submitted papers are not deserving of the awards.
Award Committee
The Coordinator of the Heisler Award competition is responsible for forming a committee to decide on the awarding of the prizes. He/she will try to ensure that the committee membership is representative of scholars working in the three main focus areas of ENMISA–ethnicity, nationalism and migration.
