ISA Annual Best Book Award

The International Studies Annual Best Book Award is conferred for the best book in the field of international studies with a copyright dated the year before the nomination.

Please note that this information will be outdated by the end of the 2013 ISA Annual Convention. We will update ISA Leadership information (including officers and committees) on our new website in mid-April. A summary of new ISA Committee members is available for download here (PDF).

Award Details

For a listing of previous awardees, please see the Past Award Recipients page.

Submission/Nomination

  • Individuals, authors, departments, and publishers may submit a nomination. A brief supporting statement is required of each nomination. The nomination with supporting statement should be addressed to the committee chair. Only email nominations will be considered. Nominators are limited to one submission.
  • It is the nominator's responsibility to contact the publisher and request that copies of the nominated title be sent to each of the committee members at the addresses listed below, along with one copy to ISA HQ (isa@isanet.org).
  • The Annual International Studies Best Book Award is conferred for the best book in the field of international studies in the previous year.
  • Nominations should be submitted by July 1st.

Selection

  • This award is not presented in years in which the Book of the Decade is presented; there will be no award nominations accepted in 2019. Books to be considered for the award must be published the year before they are nominated. The book(s) that receive(s) the award will be presented at the convention the following year after the nomination.

Prize

  • The recipient will receive $500 along with an award plaque and will be automatically nominated for the ISA Book of the Decade Award.

Award Committee

The Book Award Committee members serve a term of one year and are appointed by the incumbent ISA President. Member terms officially begin with the ISA Governing Council meeting of the first year listed and end with the closing of the ISA Governing Council meeting of the final year listed.

The Committee Chair is responsible for notifying the recipient of the award and encouraging the recipient to attend the ISA Annual Convention at which the award is to be presented. Recipients will be notified in December.
