ISA is dedicated toward increasing networking and information sharing opportunities among its members and Convention attendees. In addition to the panel and non-panel events at the Annual Convention, ISA has created additional specialty panels and sessions:

Working Groups
Working groups offer attendees a forum for dialogue and interaction around designated issue areas. By participating in a working group, conference attendees discuss the most thought-provoking issues in their sections as well as their own research through an extended and focused discussion. Such dialogue may stimulate new research questions and project ideas, and contribute to development of new communities of scholars.
Registration
Online registration has now closed, thank you for your interest.Format
Participants meet within their working group on three separate occasions during the conference. The first meeting will occur in advance of the start of the panels and provides an opportunity for participants to create a framework to guide their interactions. Working group participants then also meet towards the middle of the scheduled conference and again at the end of the conference. Participants commit to attend a small group of related panels throughout the course of the meeting to discuss during their group meetings. Because of the scheduling of other events at the conference, participants will not all attend the same panels.
A working group coordinator for each working group crafts the group theme and schedule. In addition, the working group coordinator will facilitate communication with participants and relevant ISA Sections and facilitate assessment surveys.
Participation in ISA Working Groups is open and free to all ISA members. All Working Group participants must be ISA members and be registered for the ISA annual convention. Each group is limited to a maximum of 25 participants. Registration occurs over a week-long period where potential participants register online at the ISA website. ISA Headquarters manages the registration process and waitlist for the Working Groups. With oversight from ISA Headquarters, Working Group Coordinators select participants to ensure diversity and representation in the Working Group. Working Groups adhere to ISA's "no-show" policy. This means that accepted participants who fail to attend the Working Group without properly notifying ISA Headquarters by November 19th will be prohibited from submitting a proposal for the ISA 2014 convention.
For the 2013 ISA Annual Convention, ISA HQ is pleased to sponsor the following two Working Groups. Information about the groups and the registration forms can be found here:
- "THEORIZING HIERARCHY IN ANARCHY: POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL PERSPECTIVES"
- "THE INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY OF RESOURCES: CREATING NETWORKS AND LINKAGES"

Innovative Panels
Innovative panels offer an opportunity for a little creativity and experimentation -- to push beyond the traditional panel format. In these panels, participants’ dialogue, network and learn in a unique format that differs from our traditional panel session.
Format
Innovative panels may take a variety of different formats. An innovative panel may include a debate format or a "town hall" meeting. It could constitute short panel presentations and audience discussions about a particularly timely or controversial subject with a moderator to facilitate the dialogue. Or it may involve the use of new technologies to broadcast to a greater audience or involve panelists from distant locales in the discussion.
ISA will soon announce the start of the Innovative Panel proposal period for the 2013 Annual Convention. Proposals are due May 15, 2012.
