Committee Resources

ISA standing committees

The members of ISA standing committees are appointed by the incoming ISA President with the approval of the ISA Governing Council at the annual Governing Council meeting.

Standing committees are responsible to the Governing Council and should report to it at least once a year. At the discretion of the Governing Council these annual reports may be given at the Business Meeting of the ISA and/or submitted in writing for publication. On recommendation of the President, the Governing Council designates the individuals to serve as chair and members of a standing committee. The chair of a standing committee may not serve consecutive terms.

The lengths of committee members’ terms vary among standing committees but all terms officially begin with the start of the ISA Annual Convention meeting of the first year listed and end with the closing of the ISA Governing Council meeting of the final year listed.

As the Annual Convention nears, ISA will post a 2011 Schedule of Meetings and a compilation of the 2011 Committee Reports, found within the Governing Council Agenda. Archived versions of both are accessible, per year, via the PAST ANNUAL CONVENTIONS page.

ISA Award committees

ISA offers several awards given to recognize outstanding scholarly contributions to the field of international studies. These awards have different committees, nominating procedures and application deadlines, and they recognize outstanding papers, books, and achievement and service to the international studies community.

Awards are announced or presented during the ISA Annual Convention and Region Conferences. Several Regions and Sections present awards during their Business Meetings or Receptions while others are presented during the ISA General Business Meeting and Awards Ceremony.

The type of awards presented include graduate student paper awards, faculty paper awards, book awards, service awards, and distinguished scholar awards. Award certificates, plaques, and monetary awards are coordinated through ISA Headquarters.
