Re: Committee Report
After careful deliberation, the International Studies Association Nominating Committee (Mary Caprioli, Neta Crawford, Virginia Page Fortna, Kristian Skrede Gleditsch, Fen Osler Hampson, John Ishiyama, Keith Krause, and Layna Mosley) arrived at a single slate of candidates for ISA officers: Beth Simmons for president, Sabine Carey, Valerie Hudson, and Harvey Starr for vice presidents, and Mary McAleese for Treasurer. All of these nominees have been contacted by the Committee Chair and have agreed to serve if elected.
The procedures followed were the same as in previous years. We met and organized at the ISA annual meeting and prepared a call for nominations that was distributed to the full membership shortly thereafter. At that time, we asked for nominations for president and vice president. We set a deadline of May 15, 2007 for submission of names and asked for a letter of nomination in support of the candidate as well as a copy of his or her CV. We made final decisions via a Skype conference call on Thursday, June 10th, 2009.
We had seven nominations for president, nine nominations for vice-president, and two nominations for treasurer. The committee agreed that we were fortunate to have such an extremely strong group of candidates to choose from.
The committee was extremely pleased with the final slate of candidates and feels that each will serve ISA well in terms of scholarship, visibility, and commitment and service to ISA. We also feel that the slate reflects diversity in terms of representing many constituencies within ISA.
Thank you again for this opportunity to serve the International Studies Association. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Michelle Benson
