The International Security and Arms Control section (of the American Political Science Association) and the International Security Studies Section (of the International Studies Association) held their annual joint conference at Notre Dame, November 4-6, 2016. Over 170 scholars from around the world attended, including academics from Europe, Asia, South Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. A generous grant from the Notre Dame International Security Center helped support the conference. Monica Toft (Oxford University) delivered the Friday keynote address on the future of conflict. The Saturday dinner festivities featured a debate on "Should the United States adopt a grand strategy of restraint?" The debate pitted Eugene Gholz (University of Texas, Austin), who adopted the pro side, against Stephen Brooks (Dartmouth). The conference also featured a well-attended session co-sponsored with WIIS (Women in International Security). Dan Lindley, ISAC chair, served as conference chair and Danielle Mueller served as program chair. The ISSS and ISAC are looking forward to their October 2017 conference at American University (Washington, D.C.), hosted by James Goldgeier, Dean of the School of International Service.
