News and Updates from FPA

We look forward to seeing you in Austin in two weeks for the ISAC-ISSS Conference! It is now time to get your paper(s) to the discussant and chair so that they can prepare their comments for the panel sessions. Please email your paper to your co-panelists (especially the discussant) at least one week before the panel (meaning by next Saturday, November 8, for many of you). We have also arranged a paper archive for this conference, and we ask that you upload your paper to that site as soon as possible (see Your Schedule to upload your paper). Panel chairs are in charge of setting the rules of engagement for the panels, and they should be in touch with panelists in the near future; the standard practice is for each paper presenter to speak for about 12 minutes followed by the discussants’ comments and Q&A, but panel chairs may deviate from that as seems appropriate based on the number of papers on the panel and other factors at their discretion. The LBJ School will provide digital projectors in every panel room, so please bring your presentation, if you intend to use slides, on a flash drive.

We are also pleased to announce the conference’s two keynote speakers: Ambassador Hank Crumpton and Representative Michael McCaul. On Friday evening at 5:00 pm, Ambassador Crumpton, Chairman and Chief Executive of the Crumpton Group and former Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the U.S. State Department, will speak on “A New Era of Conflict.” On Saturday evening at 5:30 pm, Representative McCaul, the Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, will speak on “The False Narrative: How Ending the ‘War on Terror’ Put America in Danger.” Both keynote speakers look forward to question and answer sessions after their remarks. We are very excited about the entire program, and look forward to a great conference. See you soon! Please note, we've reshuffled the program somewhat to deal with withdrawals. Make sure you double check your schedule and let me know if there are any problems.

Sincerely,
Eugene Gholz
ISAC-ISSS 2014 Program Chair
